Newtons Laws Newton's laws refer to a set of three principles that describe the relationship between the motion of an object and the forces acting on it. The first law, also known as the law of inertia, states that an object will remain at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless a net external force acts on it. The second law states that the net force acting on an object is proportional to its mass and acceleration. The third law states that for every action force, there is an equal and opposite reaction force.
