Name Description Used on site
Ribosome A ribosome is a complex cellular mechanism used to translate genetic code into chains of amino acids. Long chains of amino acids fold and function as proteins in cells. The function of a ribosome in any cell is to produce proteins.
tRNA tRNA stands for transfer RNA. It is a type of RNA molecule that helps make proteins from mRNA1. tRNA acts as an adapter molecule during the process of translation, connecting amino acids to nucleic acids. Each tRNA contains a set of three nucleotides called an anticodon, which matches an mRNA codon with the amino acid it codes for. tRNAs act as intermediaries between nucleotide and amino acid sequences.
